Star Wars: Eclipse was first revealed at the 2021 Game Awards. It is being developed by Quantic Dream, the developer behind Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human. The High Republic setting hasn’t been much of a focus outside the recently released books and comics, so Star Wars: Eclipse will likely be the first major video game to delve into this period. Because of this, the game could be the first to show how the galaxy dealt with politics and themes of expansionism and how it struggled to keep the peace amidst an ever-growing government....

For a studio that was heavily rumored to have intervened in Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, that felt like the right call. Let every director realize their vision, to its fullest extent. The problem is that it seems there was never a plan for all those visions to be leading up to something or to at least make sense in the context of each other. Instead, it was a case of too much liberty and no real plan....

Current Star Wars offerings tend to cover ground that’s largely been well-trampled before, like The Bad Batch and its continuation of a story from The Clone Wars. But the real draw of Visions and its introduction of anime to the Star Wars universe is its potential for entirely original stories to be told with entirely original characters. But there’s also a little bit of fond nostalgia there, and that’s what Disney was going for....

In the meantime, Blake Jorgensen attempted to quell some of the backlash by explaining EA’s reasoning for foregoing the oft-used practice of making the microtransactions purely cosmetic in Star Wars Battlefront 2. His statement at the time was, “The one thing we’re very focused on and [Lucasfilm are] extremely focused on is not violating the canon of Star Wars. Darth Vader in white probably doesn’t make sense, versus in black....

Jabba the Hutt will be added to Star Wars Battlefront at an unspecified point in the future. Jabba’s role in the game will be to provide the aptly named Hutt Contracts. EA has yet to expand on what these are exactly, but one can guess that Hutt Contracts will be similar to bounties in other FPS games. Besides the Hutt Contracts, Star Wars Battlefront fans can look forward to even more free content coming to the game....

The Season Pass will also include 20 “new pieces of galactic tech”, meaning that there will be extra weapons, vehicles, as well as Star Cards. Not to mention, 4 more Heroes and Villains are to become playable—joining Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Princess Leia, and more —as well as 4 fresh game modes. Purchasing Star Wars Battlefront’s Season Pass also gives fans access to the add-on content two weeks in advance of those without the package, and it will include a fun little “Shoot First” emote....

DICE has heard the complaints, and they will be using data collected from the beta to address the balancing issues within the Walker Assault game type. This is according to the lead multiplayer designer for Star Wars Battlefront, Dennis Brännvall of DICE, who said on Twitter, “Asymmetric modes are tricky and risky, but potentially awesome. That’s why we want beta test help.” How exactly the Walker Assault match type will be tweaked remains to be seen....

Speaking in an interview with Eurogamer, Stig Asmussen, a developer for Fallen Order, spoke more about the difficulty within the game. He claimed, before playtesting, the experience was a lot more challenging, not featuring specific difficulties options. “Most of us at work like a challenge,” he states, “but we recognize this is Star Wars, [which has] a huge audience, we don’t want anybody to feel left out. So, we made some adjustments, we added a new story difficulty mode, overall we kind of tweaked things down a little bit for our default mode....

More importantly, it also contributed a brilliant Star Wars story that followed the adventure of a young apprentice of Darth Vader named Starkiller, who quickly became a beloved protagonist with a lot of fan support. It’s for this reason that many were upset when Disney’s acquisition of the franchise rendered all the series’ extended lore as no longer canon, meaning Starkiller’s story of redemption and eventual revenge against his former mentor was treated as if having never actually happened....
