When Hansen and Anderson announced their wedding plans in June, they were unprepared for the amount of attention it drew.

“We never want to be the center of attention,” Hansen told the Aurora (Ill.,) Beacon-News on Tuesday. “It’s not that we’re not grateful, but all of this extra stuff created more and more ‘stuff’ we didn’t need.”

Despite all the hype, Anderson and Hansen opted to keep their nuptials simple. Just their four children and a small group of relatives were expected for the ceremony.

“We didn’t intend for this (media attention) to happen. It just did,” Hansen said. “From the outside it’s a great story, and we’re glad we got to share it.

“In the end, all of (the media attention) goes away and what matters is your family.”
