Giancarlo Stanton, OF, Marlins. Stanton continued his hot start to the season Tuesday, going 2-for-4 with five RBIs courtesy of a double and another monster home run against the Nationals. Even more impressive, the three-run homer came off Stephen Strasburg 457 feet to dead center. Stanton is already up to five home runs and 21 RBIs and is on track for a breakout season if he can stay healthy.
Yordano Ventura, SP, Royals. Ventura was impressive again, allowing two runs (one earned) in seven innings against the Astros to pick up his first major league victory. He allowed just four hits and struck out seven, although he did walk three. Still, Ventura has flashed his tremendous upside through his first two starts. Get more on Ventura and this season’s other impressive young guns in today’s Inside Pitch.
George Springer, OF, Astros. The Astros are expected to promote their top prospect from Triple-A prior to today’s game. Springer, who nearly went 40/40 in the minors last season, will immediately replace Robbie Grossman in the outfield and should be picked up in all formats. We’ll have more on Springer later today at Fantasy Source.
3 DOWN
Stephen Strasburg, SP, Nationals. Facing the Marlins for the second time in a row, Strasburg was lit up for six runs on eight hits and three walks in four disastrous innings. That leaves the Nats’ ace with a 6.00 ERA and 1.57 WHIP, but it’s far too early to panic.
Bronson Arroyo, SP, D-backs. Arroyo was even worse Tuesday, getting blasted by the Mets for nine runs (all earned) on 10 hits and a walk in just 3.1 innings at home. The righthander was able to find success in hitter-friendly Cincinnati, but we don’t like him at all in the desert.
Dan Straily, SP, A’s. Straily was also rocked Tuesday, giving up six runs (all earned) on seven hits and a walk in 3.2 innings against the Angels. We’ve seen more good than bad from Straily in his three starts, so don’t panic yet.
