So far, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time on PS4 is only confirmed for release in Japan, but odds are good that it will come to Europe and North America as well. After all, it’s a digital-only game (according to 4Gamer), meaning Square Enix can release it internationally without having to deal with the typical costs of selling a game at retail. Furthermore, it’s already been translated into other languages, making it even easier for Square Enix to bring the game stateside and elsewhere.
Star Ocean fans disappointed by Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness will want a high quality game in the series to play on PS4, and the HD version of Till the End of Time may be their only hope at this point. Veterans of the franchise may also want to check the game out for its HD graphics and trophy support.
Having the HD version of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time may help fans forget the clunky gameplay numerous reviewers complained about when it comes to Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness. To that end, it could remind fans of the franchise’s glory days, and if it sells well enough, it may even convince Square Enix to remaster other games in the series.
If enough fans purchase the HD version of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Square Enix and developer Tri-Ace may consider creating a brand new game in the franchise. Of course, Ultimate Hits HD Star Ocean: Till the End of Time - Director’s Cut will need to sell very well for this to happen, especially since Integrity and Faithlessness was not exactly a best-seller outside of Japan.
Before fans get their PlayStation Store wallets ready, though, they may want to wait and see if the game is ever confirmed for release outside of Japan. Square Enix has consistently brought past games in the series to the west, with the exception of the handheld spinoff Star Ocean: Blue Sphere, but even so, it’s best to wait for an official announcement before getting too excited.
Ultimate Hits HD Star Ocean: Till the End of Time - Director’s Cut is releasing for PS4 in Japan later this year.
