Despite all of the behind-the-scenes hiccups with the next Star Trek movie, it’s at least making some progress. The new Star Trek movie managed to find its director, but fans will just have to wait a little while before being able to see the film in theaters.

Paramount Pictures has pushed Star Trek 4 back to the holiday season with a December 22, 2023, release date. The film had originally been set as a summer blockbuster and was slated to release on June 9, 2023. This date was initially going to see the release of the upcoming film Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. However, the Star Wars project was ultimately postponed indefinitely, reportedly due to director Patty Jenkins’ busy schedule.
Star Trek and Star Wars have been commonly seen as the two dominant sci-fi drama franchises that have been in a friendly competition. The notion of Star Trek 4 taking the former Star Wars spot solidifies this friendly rivalry between the two beloved franchises. As of late, Star Wars has been delving into spin-off stories in order to keep itself afloat. The video games, animated series, anime, live-action television series, and spin-off films have been the main propelling force for the Star Wars lore. The fan base has significantly expanded and the best part about it is that fans don’t need to see all of them in order to understand the story.
Star Trek has been following suit by hopping on the spin-off wave as well. With an animated show and more than one live-action television series, the long-running space drama is doing everything right in order to get more fans attracted to its story.
Fans won’t have to wait long before seeing their favorite Vulcan return though. Assuming the upcoming Star Trek 4 features Spock, fans will be able to see their favorite Enterprise crew members return in roughly two years from now.
Star Trek 4 is scheduled to be released on December 22, 2023.
