Star Trek: Bridge Crew was always going to focus heavily on teamwork, with a group of players trying to operate a spacefaring vessel together. However, the users in the trailer revealed at the expo are perhaps the most qualified to truly take on the task. Taking part in the trailer were a number of former and current Star Trek cast members, including Karl Urban, Levar Burton, and Jeri Ryan.
Joined by David Votypka from Ubisoft Red Storm, the Star Trek trio took on different roles at the bridge of the ship, either as captain, engineer, or tactical, and tried to successfully manage the ship. The end result looks incredibly immersive, and the Star Trek alums seem to have a wild time. The full video can be seen in the embed below.

News regarding the title had already been released, however, with Ubisoft sharing details surrounding the title yesterday. As it stands, it sounds as though gamers will be able to play the game with their own strategies in mind. Votypka explained that “it’s up to you if you want to try the Kirk approach or be more methodical… The game is more about how you and your crew approach situations.” It certainly sounds as though the game is going to try and emulate the feel of the show in its various forms, with no any one right answer to solve a problem.
Star Trek: Bridge Crew certainly seemed to pass any tests that Levar Burton had for it. Speaking at Ubisoft’s presentation after the trailer had finished, the Next Generation actor praised the game for its feeling of realism. Explaining that all of the team “really had to work together to accomplish the mission,” Burton summed up by asking a simple question: “what’s more Star Trek than that?”
It’s not the first time that a space-faring sim has achieved VR support. Star Citizen has long been confirmed for Oculus Rift support, although admittedly with a troubled development cycle, and pre-orders of the headset came bundled with EVE: Valkyrie. However, the big name of Star Trek - and a focus on collaborative play - is bound to be an exciting prospect for many.
Star Trek: Bridge Crew will launch this fall for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR.
