For over 12 years Star Trek Online has filled a unique niche in the MMORPG market thanks to its sci-fi setting based on one of the most popular franchises of the past century. Taking place in the 25th century roughly 10 years after Star Trek: Picard, the game has players commanding their own Starfleet, Romulan, Klingon, or Jem’Hadar crews both in space and on the ground. Taking place in a vast galaxy including many authentic locations from various Star Trek media, the long-running MMORPG has been continuously updated with new stories to experience, new ships to command, and plenty of other content being added all the time.

Stormfall, the game’s latest major update, brings two new episodes to play through, “Blue Shift,” and “The Calling.” Kate Mulgrew reprises her role as Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager along with Mary Wiseman who portrays Cadet Tilly and her mirror universe counterpart, Captain “Killy” from Discovery. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Chase Masterson returns as Admiral Leeta from the mirror universe along with DS9 costar Aron Eisenberg as Captain Nog. The Heart of the Storm event will see players battling through an updated, screen-accurate version of Deep Space Nine featuring new cutscenes, enemies, and reworked boss mechanics in the new Forged In Fire Task Force Operation.

Along with the new story content is the addition of the California Class starship from the Lower Decks animated series which can be found in Infinity Lockboxes. Other items from the show such as the Mandatory Medical Treatment rifle and Scorpion Cube are available on the Lobi Store. The tutorial experience for newly created 2409 Starfleet characters has also been revamped with a polished tutorial, UI, improved cutscenes, and better mission flow. Also with the update is the return of the Delta Recruitment event, where players can start new characters which will unlock account-wide rewards as they make progress.

Thanks to the revamped tutorial experience and the Delta Recruitment event, now is a great time for returning players or curious gamers to dive into the game and explore the final frontier, especially since the game is considered one of the best free-to-play MMOs. Fans of Star Trek or MMORPGs will find plenty of content to play through thanks to the game’s long history of updates and expansions.
