In addition to the reveal of Star Wars Battlefront 2’s first trailer, the panel at Star Wars Celebration 2017 will feature members of the game’s development team from the three separate Electronic Arts studios of DICE, Criterion, and Motive discussing the title. Beyond the announcement of the reveal trailer, however, EA failed to provide any additional details as to what fans should expect from the title.
Although Electronic Arts didn’t address any more details regarding Star Wars Battlefront 2 today, the company has been plenty vocal in the past about what the sequel to the 2015 first-person shooter will contain, as it has been confirmed to have a single-player campaign, as well as content from “multiple eras” within the film franchise’s history. In fact, far prior to today’s confirmation of Battlefront 2, the publisher even revealed that the sequel will have a “lot of new characters” from the new Star Wars movies such as Episode 7 – The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and potentially Episode 8 – The Last Jedi.
Furthermore, the sequel to the 2015 science fiction title has been discussed so much in advance of today’s official announcement that Electronic Arts has even gone so far as to declare certain features that won’t make the cut for Battlefront 2. Interestingly enough, DICE’s associate design director Dennis Brännvall confirmed several months ago that the sequel will not add the Conquest game mode, much to the chagrin of fans.
As is typically expected of follow-up titles, Electronic Arts intends for Star Wars Battlefront 2 to be “much bigger” than 2015’s release, and since the game has already been slated to have its launch be sometime during fall 2017, it’s evident that the developers have been working on the sequel for quite a while. With any luck, though, not only will DICE, Criterion, and Motive make up for all that 2015’s Battlefront lacked with the next game, but also it will live up to its status of being one of the most anticipated video games of 2017.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is slated for release sometime in fall 2017, with potential platforms being PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
