In a blog post on the official Star Wars Battlefront 2 website, EA confirms that players can finally try their hands at newly revamped 40 player multiplayer battles during an open beta test starting on October 6, 2017 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Players who preorder the game, however, can jump in a few days sooner on October 4.
For this beta test, the multiplayer includes the Clone Wars era Battle of Theed, which fans witnessed for the first time at E3 2017. While not specifically mentioned, fans should expect to see Rey, Boba Fett, and Darth Maul as playable heroes, mirroring the E3 event as well. Interestingly enough, fans will also have access to Starfighter Assault, a new game mode that lets players pilot some of the most iconic ships in the Star Wars universe. EA has promised more details regarding this mode next month at Gamescom.
Players will have until October 9th to get in on the action, when the beta officially closes its doors in preparation for launch a few weeks later in November. Participating players also get bonus content for helping test the game, including Yoda’s Epic Lightsaber Mastery Star Card. The news post also mentions that this offer is only available while supplies last, indicating that not every player may get their hands on the item. Therefore, people are encouraged to log in sooner rather than later in order to guarantee one.
Star Cards, which are unlocked through loot crates, has been in the middle of a bit of controversy lately. A video recently surfaced describing the way the system works and how players can use duplicate item crafting parts to upgrade or buy new star cards. With the ability to purchase new loot crates with in-game and real world money, many fans have begun to worry that players willing to shell out money will be at a significant advantage to those wanting to just play the game normally.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 arrives on November for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
