Star Wars Battlefront 2’s prequel novel, Star Wars Battlefront 2: Inferno Squad, will hit shelves on July 25th. Written by Christie Golden, Inferno Squad was once meant to be a sequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so it’s possible events from the film will still play a role in the novel’s plot.
Star Wars Battlefront 2’s single player story campaign is said to span a great deal of the Star Wars timeline. According to details released so far, the game starts right after the events of Return of the Jedi and runs through to the ongoing sequel trilogy. Considering this, it’s certainly possible that Versio will have been involved in some capacity in the events of Rogue One, and if those events are detailed in the novel, it could reveal a lot about her character.
Other characters set to be featured in Star Wars Battlefront 2 may also be introduced to the world through the game’s upcoming tie-in novel. After all, the novel is about the titular “Inferno Squad,” an Imperial squadron out to kill rebels, so Versio certainly isn’t alone in her exploits.
Of course, that’s just speculation at this time, and it’s entirely possible that Iden Versio will be the only character introduced in the novel to be playable in Star Wars Battlefront 2. The roster of playable characters is already expected to be busy, as evidenced by the inclusion of characters like Darth Maul and Yoda from elsewhere in the Star Wars timeline, and so adding characters that originated in a novel may not be high on DICE’s priority list.
It remains to be seen how important the Inferno Squad novel will be to the plot of Star Wars Battlefront 2, but at the very least, it should provide additional insight into the character of Iden Versio. Anyone looking to learn more about Star Wars Battlefront 2’s protagonist should consider picking up the Star Wars Battlefront 2: Inferno Squad novel when it releases on July 25th.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be available on November 17th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
