Despite not following through on the tease of characters from the new movies, as reported by GameSpot, Blake Jorgensen went on to call Star Wars Battlefront 2 “dramatically larger” than its predecessor. As a matter of fact, the EA CFO seemed incredibly excited at the prospect of the sequel, as Jorgensen said, “The Star Wars universe is just unbelievable to build games in because it’s so vast.”
For those unaware, 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront hosted several characters from the newest movies in the film series, as it featured materials from Star Wars: Rogue One, as well as Star Wars: Episode 7 – The Force Awakens. Content from the former film was introduced as a paid expansion pack called Rogue One: Scarif well after the base game launched in 2015, while the latter flick was represented in the first-person shooter early on with the Battle of Jakku DLC.
Since Rogue One’s protagonist Jyn Erso and its antagonist Orson Krennic were featured in Star Wars Battlefront, it’s quite possible for them to be left out of the sequel in favor of other characters from the film, such as Bodhi Rook or Cassian Andor. However, just because certain heroes and villains made an appearance in 2015’s Battlefront doesn’t mean they won’t return in the followup. After all, it’s hard to imagine a Star Wars game without the likes of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, or Darth Vader showing up or at least being mentioned at some point.
All things considered, Electronic Arts’ decision to include a glut of characters from Star Wars’ new movies in Battlefront 2 is a smart one that is likely to be incredibly lucrative, as the game can serve as a promotional tool for the latest films and vice versa. So, with Star Wars Battlefront 2 slated to release sometime this year, it’s a safe bet to make that The Force Awakens’ Rey and Finn will be featured in the game in order to remind fans about Episode 8 – The Last Jedi’s theatrical debut this December.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is currently in development and scheduled to launch sometime later this year.
