News of the Death Star DLC comes via a Star Wars Celebration panel, in which Electronic Arts teased a small selection of in-development titles. Yes, there was talk of Visceral Games’ new Star Wars title – the one that Amy Hennig is directing – but the real focus was this DLC, and for good reason.
It seems a no-brainer that Star Wars Battlefront would feature one of the most iconic locations as DLC fodder; in fact, we’re a little surprised it took almost a year for the game to target the Empire’s super weapon. Nevertheless, the Death Star DLC is coming and it will boast a few additional fan favorites as well.
In total, the Death Star DLC will feature a suite of new additions, including new maps, weapons, and Star Cards for players to check out. It’s also worth mentioning that the new maps will feature combat inside the Death Star and in the space surrounding the massive installation. As of yet, it’s unclear if that means some form of space battles are coming to Star Wars Battlefront, but the below trailer hints fans may finally get their wish this fall.

Of course, a new Star Wars Battlefront DLC drop wouldn’t be complete without the addition of new heroes/villains, and the Death Star DLC has quite the treat. Alongside the Bounty Hunter Bossk, the upcoming add-on will also feature Chewbacca as a playable hero. It was only a matter of time before Chewbacca joined the fray, so it’s good to see the Wookie make the cut, even if it might be a little late.
All told the Death Star DLC for Star Wars Battlefront looks to offer a fan’s dream. The possibility of space battles is hard to pass up and the addition of Chewbacca is sure to generate interest, even from those who don’t already own DICE’s third person multiplayer shooter.
News of more content couldn’t have come at a better time either, as Star Wars Battlefront is set to add an offline single player mode to its roster. Granted, the mode is simply an AI engagement with bots, but it’s a step in the right direction. Hopefully by the time Star Wars Battlefront 2 comes around there will be a full campaign. If not some die-hard fans, like Star Wars Episode 7’s John Boyega, are going to be pretty disappointed.
Star Wars Battlefront’s Death Star DLC releases September 2016.
