With 16-bit graphics based on the fondly remembered Super Star Wars series, the clip recreates a Survival mission on Tatooine — which will be rather familiar to anyone who’s been keeping up with the pre-release footage shared by EA and DICE to promote the game.

However, rather than the first-person action that players will be able to enjoy in the real Battlefront, gameplay here is a side-scrolling throwback to classic games from years gone by. Fans of the punishingly difficult Super Star Wars games should pick up on several nods to the series.

It’s safe to say that Star Wars Battlefront would be a rather different game if it launched during the 16-bit era. As well as the obvious graphical advances over the past two decades, it certainly wouldn’t boast 40 player online modes — and there would (thankfully) be no chance of content from the prequel trilogy being included.

While this clip will be sure to stoke the fires of anticipation in the hearts of many Star Wars fans, today marks another very important milestone for anyone looking forward to the new Battlefront. Later on, the game’s public beta will open, giving the masses their first opportunity to try out the game.

Given that its been ten years since Battlefront II launched, you can be sure that there will be plenty of players eager to take the reboot for a spin once the beta goes live. The Survival mission that the 16-bit video is based on will be available as part of the preview, alongside Walker Assault and the recently announced Drop Zone.

With The Force Awakens a matter of weeks away from release, it’s fair to say that Star Wars fever is about to take over. If Battlefront proves to be a satisfying experience over the course of the beta test, there’s little reason to doubt EA’s high hopes for the game’s selling power.

Of course, that success all depends on the multiplayer experience being able to live up to previous titles in the series. Pretty soon, we’ll have a good idea of whether the force is strong with Star Wars Battlefront.

Star Wars Battlefront is set to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 17, 2015.
