Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been such a huge presence in the media for the better part of a month. While the sales in November were made well before the movie’s release, The Force Awakens has generated a ton of buzz and interest in all things related to Star Wars, inspiring new generations of fans and making a holiday purchase of Battlefront more appealing to younger demographics.
Interestingly enough, however, despite the likelihood that The Force Awakens has had a positive impact on Battlefront sales, EA doesn’t seem to believe it’s enough to warrant a bigger focus on the newer movie property within the game. Although Star Wars Battlefront features the Battle for Jakku DLC based on the movie, EA has already announced that it has no plans to continue releasing content related to The Force Awakens, instead voicing a preference for DLC that will honor the original trilogy instead.
Perhaps the most fascinating thing amidst all the sales success that Battlefront is currently enjoying is the fact that the game itself is widely regarded to be one that is good, but not truly great. Game Rant’s review of Star Wars Battlefront praised its dedication to the kind of action Star Wars fans love, but conceded the game does not offer the best multiplayer action on any platform and is unlikely to remain entertaining for years to come. Still, it’s one of the best video game properties related to a beloved franchise in quite some time, which likely helps gamers look past the game’s dark side and embrace the light.
