A few days ago, Electronic Arts teased a new hero character via their Twitter account, but gave no concrete answer as to when to expect his or her official reveal. And even more recently, the team at EA gave fans a glimpse at the concept art showcasing Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Unleashed DLC called Battle of Jakku, based around aspects of the forthcoming film’s story.
Taking those tiny tidbits of news into consideration, it’s obvious that the developers are playing their cards pretty close to the vest in order to build some buzz and not completely tip the studio’s hand. However, some fans would argue that Electronic Arts and DICE are intentionally withholding particulars about the title so that gamers won’t find out that it’s a carbon-copy of the company’s military franchise Battlefield. DICE’s general manager Patrick Bach asserts such claims couldn’t be further from the truth, and would vehemently contend that Star Wars Battlefront is not a Battlefield clone.
While speaking about the matter of Star Wars Battlefront’s uniqueness as a FPS in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine, Bach says:
Bearing the above statements in mind, the remarks could ring false to some Star Wars Battlefront fans. After all, the game’s Supremacy mode details bear a resemblance to the Battlefield series’ Conquest mode, wherein the objective of both is for players to lead their teams toward dominating and defending five control points scattered across a giant map before the 10 minute round is over.
Then again, a lot of first-person shooters have similar modes. For instance, Call of Duty’s multiplayer campaign has had a Domination mode predating the aforementioned games that is almost exactly like Battlefront’s Supremacy, and Battlefield’s Conquest. In any event, it would be wise to reserve judgment of Star Wars Battlefront until we’ve actually played the final version of the title, for when it officially drops, most fans who had previously been complaining will almost assuredly change their tunes when they’re piloting the Millennium Falcon.
Star Wars Battlefront is set to release on November 17, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
