Sony previously reported that the controller would remain exclusively a part of the Battlefront PS4 bundle. However, it seems as if the company has changed its mind, as the tech firm announced pre-orders to be available soon. Unfortunately, no actual prices have been listed as of writing.
While the Darth Vader designed controller admittedly looks supremely stylish when compared with its DualShock 4 brethren, its orientation offers no real advantage over the other PS4 peripherals. As far as aesthetics go, the Dark Side of the Force is definitely strong with this one, with the red D-pad and white analog sticks complementing the colors of the bundle’s sleek black console displaying an ivory outline of Darth Vader’s trademark helmet.

Of course, not only is the legendary antagonist represented as an artistic motif for the Star Wars Battlefront hardware, but Darth Vader is also one of the game’s playable Heroes and Villains. Due to the character’s iconic status in the sci-fi universe’s lore, he was teased way ahead of other figures in the title so as to entice fans, while his son, Luke Skywalker, became unveiled soon after.
Without a doubt, the ability to buy the Darth Vader themed DualShock 4 separately will be a boon for both Star Wars Battlefront fans with PlayStation 4 systems and developers alike, as many folks may not be able to spring for an entirely new console just for the one extra product that interests them. Nevertheless, with the Star Wars shooter’s beta player count making it the biggest test Electronic Arts has done yet, the publisher ought to translate the vast amount of feedback into quality gameplay, which will be even more enjoyable when experienced with the Darth Vader controller.
Star Wars Battlefront is set to release on November 17, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, while the Darth Vader DualShock 4 will be available for pre-order soon, with a launch date of November 13, 2015 in the US, November 18, 2015 in Europe, and November 19, 2015 in the UK.
