With an open beta kicking off in just a few days on October 8, news and videos from a Star Wars Battlefront pre-beta event held at DICE have started to release, detailing many more aspects of the upcoming shooter. While EA and DICE have revealed a few playable hero characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker for the game, fans have not yet seen these characters in action outside of a few teases. Thanks to some new captured video footage, however, gamers are now seeing these playable heroes in action for the first time.
Thanks to YouTube user Westie, Star Wars Battlefront fans finally have their first good look at how Luke Skywalker will play. In the short clip, Westie comes across a hero powerup item, giving the option to spawn in as Luke Skywalker. After a short intro clip, the player takes over as Luke, gaining access to certain abilities like Saber Rush, a light saber swinging dash attack, and force push, which the player uses to great effect a bit later in the video.
Eagle eyed viewers should notice that Luke’s health bar constantly degrades, acting as a limiter to the potential damage the player can cause to the other team. Before being taken out by an AT-ST, the player impressively takes down 15 enemy players and an AT-ST vehicle, though. Based on this footage alone, hero/villain characters are certainly capable of turning the tide in a match if utilized well.

Luke has been previously detailed in an official blog post on the Star Wars Battlefront site, and he is modeled after the Return of the Jedi appearance, complete with green lightsaber and gloved hand. According to the post and now this video, players who opt to become a hero or villain will have access to that character for as long as the health meter remains filled. While it constantly depletes, players can extend their time by killing other playable heroes or villains.
While we know about Luke, Darth Vader, and Boba Fett so far, DICE has been coy about revealing any more playable hero characters. Though fans have been promised that the final product will contain additional characters, the developer has been cagey at best, choosing to remain silent for now. Recent teases have led fans to speculate that Han Solo will be the next major character to join the roster, though, thereby balancing the game with two heroes and two villains each.
Who would you like to see join the hero roster next? Do you think DICE will add any characters from the upcoming movie or leave it just with characters from Episodes 4, 5, and 6? Let us know below in the comments.
Star Wars Battlefront releases on November 17, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
