Andor is a spin-off series that works as a prequel to the 2016 Star Wars film Rogue One. Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor returns as an intelligence officer for the Rebel Alliance, and the series will follow his backstory five years prior to the film’s plot. Talks of the series began in 2018, and it was revealed that Luna would return to reprise his role. The Andor trailer is only the first time that fans have gotten a glimpse of what’s in store for Luna’s titular character and the rebellion.

The Andor teaser trailer begins with glimpses of different civilizations as a potential threat looms. Stormtroopers slowly swoop in and seem to be on the lookout for any rebel members. Luna’s Andor is on the run during the reign of the Empire and works with Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma to infiltrate their forces. While the trailer does not reveal a lot more about the plot, the official synopsis confirms that the series will showcase Cassian’s journey to becoming a rebel hero, and how “people and planets became involved” in the rebellion against the Empire.
The upcoming Andor series also stars Stellan Skarsgard as a Rebel leader. Luna was present at the Star Wars Celebration to share his excitement with fans at being given the opportunity to be able to play Andor once again. As part of 2016’s Rogue One, Andor sacrifices his life to be able to get the plans for the Death Star superweapon to the Rebel command ship led by Princess Leia.
Andor is not the only Star Wars series in the works at Disney Plus. The third season of The Mandalorian is in production and is expected to premiere in February 2023. It will bring back Pedro Pascal’s titular character and Grogu as they continue their journey. The mini-series Obi-Wan Kenobi also premieres tomorrow and showcases Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi’s struggles as he watches over Luke Skywalker on the desert planet Tatooine. Fans are excited to see Ewan McGregor return to play Obi-Wan Kenobi and reprise his role from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Andor is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus on August 31, 2022.
