There is no shortage of Star Wars content to enjoy. Not only is Disney churning out shows for Disney+, but the video game industry is also hard at work on many titles. Respawn Entertainment is making a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order along with a first-person shooter, Ubisoft is working on an open-world title, Quantic Dream is making Star Wars Eclipse, and Traveller’s Tales just released LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. All of these games bring players to the galaxy far, far away, but as far as anyone knows, none of these titles let them live out their own Star Wars story, and a Hogwarts Legacy-inspired game could offer that.

The Story of Star Wars is Expansive
Ever since 1977, Star Wars has brought moviegoers to an expansive galaxy. They have witnessed the rise of the Jedi Council during the Clone Wars, the reign of the Empire, and the Age of the Resistance. More recently, novels have begun exploring the High Republic era, and a remake of Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic is on the way. There are centuries of stories begging to be explored by fans.
Along with these different ages comes a host of iconic characters and planets. Star Wars has played host to the likes of Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ashoka Tano, Kylo Ren, and Jabba the Hutt. Planets like Hoth, Courscant, Tatooine, and Kamino are instantly recognizable by fans, and that barely scratches the surface of the amount of planets that are in the galaxy. There is no definite number of habitable planets, as Star Wars is constantly adding more.
The story of Star Wars has been told over 11 theatrical movies, many TV shows, and countless novels. Hours worth of content are just waiting for fans to watch, and it shows no signs of stopping as Disney prepares to launch more content set in the galaxy far, far away. That is not even mentioning the amount of video games that have been released, or are currently in development. Even with all of this content, fans have only ever been able to live out their own Star Wars stories in two MMOs.

A Star Wars Legacy Game Could Be a Lot of Fun
Hogwarts Legacy will allow fans of Harry Potter to tell their own Hogwarts stories within the limits of Avalanche Studios’ design. Many fans of Star Wars have similarly wanted to live out their days in the Star Wars galaxy, taking a shuttle to the sand dunes of Tatooine, flying the Kessel Run as they smuggle spice, tracking bounties across the galaxy, and training in the ways of the light or dark side. Star Wars Galaxies and Star Wars: The Old Republic have offered this kind of experience, but both require people to play online. With the framework that Avalanche Studios is laying down with Hogwarts Legacy, perhaps Star Wars should follow suit.
A Star Wars version of Hogwarts Legacy could bring players to the galaxy far, far away so they can tell their own stories. It could be set in one of the three major eras, or if the developers wanted to go the extra mile it could allow players to select which era they prefer. What may be best for the title is if it brought players to a whole new era disconnected from the current Star Wars narrative, much like how Hogwarts Legacy is bringing players to a time way before Harry Potter. Much like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, players would be able to explore multiple planets.
Like most single-player RPGs, a Star Wars Legacy game could allow players to fully customize their own character. The Star Wars galaxy offers a wide range of species and outfits to choose from. They could create a standard human, Twi’leks, Rodians, Trandoshans, Wookies, Togrutas, maybe even Jawas. The game could also explore lesser-known species like Chiss, Ikkrukkian, and Vintians. With the variety of planets that Star Wars has yet to explore, the developers could even introduce new species to customize.
While it seems Hogwarts Legacy will be locking players into being fifth-year students at Hogwarts, A Star Wars Legacy game should not lock players into one role, Too many Star Wars titles give players control over Jedi and Sith, so this title should allow players to select from multiple different classes before heading off on their adventures. They could be a Bounty Hunter, a Smuggler, a Soldier, a Podracer, or traditional Jedi and Sith roles. This would give players more control over the story they want to tell, not requiring them to play as a force-user if they are bored with that notion.
The Star Wars story is large and its galaxy is endless, so setting a Hogwarts Legacy-type game inside that universe would make sense. Fans of the franchise have dreamed of exploring their favorite locales and telling their own stories, so the gaming industry should deliver on that. While they can get that experience through Star Wars: The Old Republic, nothing compares to them being allowed to tell their Star Wars story in a single-player RPG.
