Trainers who are excited for the event can already purchase their tickets and even grab some real life swag to make sure they are ready to celebrate the global event when it takes place remotely on July 25 and July 26. In order to draw in some additional players who aren’t already on the hype train, Pokemon GO and Niantic recruited a big name director to remotely direct the production of a new spot promoting the upcoming event.

Rian Johnson is probably best known for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and, more recently, Knives Out, but the writer/director has had a cult following for a long time thanks to Brick, The Brothers Bloom, and Looper. What film fans may not be aware of is that Rian is also a major fan of the Pokemon franchise and specifically Pokemon GO.

Johnson was able to channel that Pokefan energy into a new GO Fest spot that plays around with the idea of peeling back a layer of our everyday lives, looking closer, and experiencing being a Trainer with your favorite Pokemon. The ad is only 30 seconds, but it does a pretty great job capturing the immersive nature of Pokemon GO events.

In reference to working on the GO Fest spot, Johnson opened up about his relationship with the franchise and what it was like to work with Niantic on this unique remote production…

This year’s GO Fest event offers a unique opportunity in that all players are able to participate without worrying about buying from a limited pool of tickets or having to travel around the world to one specific physical location. The celebration definitely has potential to be the biggest Pokemon GO event to date, so it will be very exciting to follow along and see how the event plays out on July 25 and July 26.

As trainers continue working through all of these amazing events, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
