Currently, very little is known about the project, but players will be taking on the role of Cal Kestis, a padawan hunted by the Empire during the Dark Times set between Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith and Episode 4: A New Hope. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is not the first work to explore this time period, however, so given the rich lore of Star Wars and these other works, here’s everything we’d love to see in (hopefully) the next big Star Wars game in no particular order.
10 1. Lightsaber Customization
The lightsaber is an iconic Jedi weapon, and we already know the cover art Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order lightsaber will evolve throughout the course of the game. Whether it is this lightsaber or another, we’d love to see some realistic and deep lightsaber customization, as many may recall the various components of a lightsaber. Each is powered by a Kyber Crystal that can come in various colors, with the most common being green, blue, and red. Yet there is also precedent for white, purple, gold, silver, and more that could go a long way in customizing the experience.
Plus, there are a variety of hilts and combat styles beyond the single saber. Dual-wielding lightsabers or using a dual blade (like Darth Maul) would offer new gameplay opportunities, but there are also curved hilts (Count Dooku), crossguard hilts (Kylo Ren), Shotos (Ahsoka Tano), and more.
9 2. Star Wars Cameos
Star Wars has always had a rich cast of characters, with many active between Episodes 3 and 4. This, combined with the fact that developer Respawn Entertainment has stated that Cal will meet a wide variety of characters, suggests that a few cameos will appear. Although there are a number of characters that could make an appearance it would be fun to see cameos in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from characters like Darth Vader, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Commander Cody, and Doctor Aphra.
Darth Vader seems self-explanatory since the Sith Lord trains the Inquisitors and hunts down other Jedi. This includes his former apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, so it would be interesting if Vader was hunting Cal too. Thrawn was last seen in Star Wars Rebels, but seeing the ruthless Admiral in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order would only cement his fate as one of many fan-favorite characters.
Commander Cody, the clone featured several times in the Clone Wars animated series, has a long history in Legends, but since Disney canon took over, the character hasn’t seen the light of day since he failed to kill Obi-Wan Kenobi. And finally, it would be interesting to see Doctor Aphra from the comic book series of the same name. She was born around 24 BBY and was recruited by Vader shortly after the Battle of Yavin, so giving the Cameron Monaghan-voiced Cal some type of influence over her would be interesting to see in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
8 3. Star Wars Rebels Crossover
Although the exact time frame of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has yet to be established, it seems possible that Cal is active at the same time as the Ghost crew from Star Wars Rebels, namely Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus, Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, Zeb Orrelios, Chopper, and occasionally Commander Rex. The close time proximity could mean that Cal runs into the crew, and it’s also notable that Cal is being tracked by an Inquisitor known as Second Sister, and the Ghost crew has come into conflict with the Grand Inquisitor, the Seventh Sister, in their journeys. What form the Star Wars Rebels crossover takes wouldn’t matter much, but seeing Ezra Bridger in the graphics of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order would make the tiniest crossover well worth it.
7 4. New and Returning Planets
The developer behind Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has stated that we would see new and familiar planets in the semi-open world Star Wars game, with Bracca serving as the starter planet. His journeys will focus on the Mid Rim section of the galaxy, but that doesn’t mean fans won’t see the planets of Dagobah, Tatooine, Jedha, Kashyyyk, and/or Takodana featured in the game. The first two are far beyond the Mid Rim, but each is significant to Star Wars lore in its own way. So, including Dagobah (a visit with Yoda?), Tatooine (Anakin’s homeworld), Jedha (Star Wars Rogue One), Kashyyyk (the Wookie planet), or Takodana (Maz Kanata’s Castle) seems like an easy decision.
6 5. More Extensive Force Powers
In the first official Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order trailer, we see Cal running across a wall and using the force to seemingly save someone. And while Respawn has revealed that Force powers will be present in combat, there could be more extensive uses for them.
5 6. Evils of the Empire
Writer Chris Avellone has previously stated that he is more of an Empire Strikes Back-type of guy, which suggests a somber tone. Star Wars has tried to balance optimism with despair and given Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s time period it seems that players are even for a darker tale. Here, fans can expect to see the machinations of the Empire at its worst, as the remaining Jedi try to survive.
4 7. In Memory of Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher may be gone, but Princess Leia exists in the heart of every Star Wars fan and those who worked alongside her. During the Dark Times, the Princess was a rising star in the world of politics and the budding rebellion, so seeing something that honors the memory of Princess Leia and Carrie Fisher (whether it be a mention, a mission, or just the above message) and continues her story would fit right in with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
3 8. Intense Lightsaber Combat
The lightsaber is a deadly weapon that deflects blaster bolts, cuts through most materials, and severs limbs with ease. However, the lightsaber tends to feel so weak in hack and slash games that it might as well not do any of the above. This doesn’t seem like it will be the case with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, as it supposedly has Sekiro-like combat. Respawn Entertainment has even promised “thoughtful gameplay.”
2 9. Deeply Customizable BD-1
Publisher EA has already stated that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will not feature microtransactions, but that hopefully doesn’t mean customization is being wantonly tossed out the window. Unlocking a variety of new paint schemes, abilities, or even components (perhaps turning BD-1 into something similar to a BB unit) for BD-1 will do much to elevate Cal’s droid to the level of other popular droids in the franchise such as R2-D2, BB-1, or even HK-47.
1 10. Memorable Companions
Although Jedi and the Force will always remain at the fore of Star Wars, it has always been a story about a crew. In the original trilogy, it is not just Luke Skywalker, but also Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2. In the sequel trilogy, it is not just Rey, but also Finn, Poe Dameron, and BB-8 (among others). So, it seems only logical that the cast of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order be as memorable. Previously revealed characters like Cal Kestis, the leaked Jedi mentor Ceres, the pilot, and BD-1 all sound like they could fill those roles.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will launch November 15, 2019, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
