EA has confirmed that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was part of a new franchise, suggesting that a sequel was in the works, but fans have long believed it to be the case. It’s one of those situations where a sequel is not only appropriate but called for by fans. Fans can expect their first showcase of the game at the Star Wars Celebration taking place from May 26-May 29, according to known insider and reporter Jeff Grubb.

Grubb’s information is reliable, though it’s always best to take any unconfirmed information with a grain of salt, and he recently commented on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2’s platforms. During the latest Last of the Nintendogs podcast, he was asked if Jedi: Fallen Order 2 would be next-gen only, and Grubb is “pretty sure” that it is. This means that Jedi: Fallen Order 2 will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, not PS4 or Xbox One. While those still on that console generation may be disappointed when/if this is announced, it hopefully bodes well for the overall quality of the game. (Grubb’s comment is seen at the 42:40 timestamp below.)
This choice doesn’t come as a surprise, either. The PS5 and Xbox Series X have nearly been out for a year and a half, with more and more games shifting toward current-gen only instead of cross-gen. Both platforms have had their fair share of good cross-gen games, but both sides also have big exclusive titles on the horizon, like Forspoken, Starfield, and more. So, it all lines up.
Of course, fans will likely know with absolute certainty come the aforementioned Star Wars Celebration. Many believe the game will be a holiday 2022 release, perhaps competing with titles like Hogwarts Legacy, and if so, that’s reason to believe the reveal will be substantial. Between the celebration and the months between now and then, there’s a lot of time to learn about the game, but platforms are usually one of the first few elements confirmed.
Meanwhile, the general future of Star Wars games looks bright. From confirmed titles like the Knights of Old Republic Remake and Respawn’s other Star Wars games to rumored titles like the Mandalorian MMO, Star Wars fans—especially in the video game department—will likely be eating well.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is reportedly in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
