Cal’s journey begins on the planet Bracca, a location where he has been in hiding since Order 66 was initiated. Events unfold that see Cal join the Mantis crew in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, that put him into direct conflict with the inquisitors, and see him explore various cultures, tombs, and conflicts found within the Star Wars universe. This leads all the way to the end of the story.

Prior to beginning the final mission, an assault on an Inquisitor stronghold, Cere officially knights Cal. Ironically, this is done with a red Sith lightsaber, but it officially marks his transition from Padawan to Jedi Knight. They then attack the stronghold in order to get back a Jedi Holocron containing a list of Force-sensitives found throughout the galaxy. Cal once again fights the Second Sister, Trilla, Cere’s former Padawan. The fight ends with Trilla showing a draw back to the light, asking Cere and Cal to “Avenge Us,” and finally being killed by Darth Vader.
The “Avenge Us” is an interesting line that could come back in the future. She’s asking Cere and Cal to avenge those Jedi survivors who were tortured, manipulated, seduced to the Dark Side, and forced to hunt those they once called allies. The Second Sister and the Ninth Sister are the only ones explored in the game, leaving room for other members of the Inquisition to come back and perhaps be brought back from the Dark Side.
With Holocron in hand now, Cal and Cere are forced to flee from Vader, with Cal and Cere being trapped in a corridor in one point. Cere once again turns to the Dark Side, but this time around, instead of cutting herself off from the Force, she is able to overcome it. Cere’s later appearance will likely show a triumph Jedi Master, a return to form for the Star Wars character.
After escaping, the Mantis Crew have a big question to answer, one that Kestis initially feels confident with but then struggles with in the latter sections of the game. What should the Mantis Crew do with the Holocron? Cere believes it can be used to rebuild the Order, whereas Merrin sees it as a risk. When he first began his journey, Cal was deadset on the former, but after receiving a terrible Force vision of those children being hunted by the Empire, he ultimately decides against. Cal destroys the holocron that he has been seeking since the very beginning of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to protect those children and leave their destiny to the Force.
This is a big decision and one worth exploring as it pertains to Star Wars lore. Jedi: Fallen Order takes place in 14 BBY, 14 years before A New Hope and roughly 10 years before Star Wars Rebels take place. In Rebels, the inquisitors are still hunting Jedi, but without this holocron, finding Force sensitive children isn’t a real big thing anymore. It contextualizes how there are still Force sensitives in the galaxy and how they are safe from the hands of the Empire. More than that though, Star Wars: The Last Jedi takes place 34 years or so after A New Hope, and it ends by showing Force sensitive children.
This beats on the common theme that the Force is an ever-present force and that, while the Order may be fallen, there will always be Jedi. It is imply the will of the Force, something that Cal’s actions indicates his full trust in. After this, though, Cal echoes the question of what comes next? Luckily, there’s plenty of room for this to be explored in any Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order DLC or a potential sequel.
First, there’s plenty of time here to be explored. It would be cool to see DLC that jumped time and showed Cal and the Mantis Crew working with the characters in Star Wars Rebels before the actual formation of the Ghost Crew. Plus, with 10 years between canonical events, there’s plenty of room to be explored, even more Inquisitors. The “Avenge Us” doesn’t seem like it will just be a throwaway line; it seems to imply that exploring more Jedi-turned-Inquisitors would be open to more exploration.

Not to mention, Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader are clearly aware of Cal and Cere now. It’s not characteristic of the two Sith Lords to just take a loss, so taking the story a step further and showcasing a storyline where Vader was more directly involved would be likely be welcome by fans. Vader was clearly impressed by Cere when she tapped into the Dark Side, meaning the room for a growing dynamic between the two - with protagonist Cal caught in the middle, of course - is already there.
The Zeffo are also open to more exploration, as the Sages’ downfall is clearly some type of foreshadowing, and it wouldn’t make much sense for a whole new race and culture to be a one-and-done. Perhaps Cal can continue Cordova’s journey to learn of this culture, while also supporting the same themes already found in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Regardless, taking the story of Jedi: Fallen Order further seems more of a question of when than if. Many fans consider it their personal GOTY, with many equally spurned by Jedi: Fallen Order not getting nominated in the Game Awards. And it only makes sense for Respawn Entertainment to keep this story moving, especially after this ending. Currently, there are no DLC plans announced for the game, but even if that proves to be the case, many-a-fan would clearly welcome a sequel.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
