Set in the aftermath of the films’ prequel trilogy, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order puts players in the boots of Cal Kestis, a Padawan on the run from the evil Empire, in the darkest hour of the Jedi Order. The action game blends the pulse-pounding lightsaber duels of the Star Wars movies with settings and a new narrative all its own, and to keep the surprises of the plot intact for players, EA will not offer a pre-launch trial period for subscribers to EA Access, citing the risk of spoiler leaks. The news also applies to Origin Access subscribers on PC.

Fans may be disappointed to wait until the full release to get their hands on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but as a way of making it up to subscribers, EA is instead offering two exclusive skins for players’ BD-1 droid buddy and Stinger Mantis ship. Named the Vanguard set, the olive green and orange color scheme of the skins is a direct nod to BT-7274, one of the main characters of Respawn and EA’s first-person shooter Titanfall 2.
With the infamous loot box controversy that surrounded Star Wars: Battlefront 2, EA needs its next entry in the franchise to be a winner. Meanwhile, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is set to be the second major release this year from Respawn, with the studio scoring a major success for the publisher in the form of its battle royale shooter, Apex Legends. Only time will tell whether Respawn will hit it out of the park again and bring back the glory of Star Wars games past, but early previews have left a strong impression.
EA Access is the publisher’s subscription service for the PS4 and Xbox One, with a Steam version launching alongside Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. For $5 monthly or $30 a year, the service offers a library of on-demand games, additional content for EA games and discounts, and has included free trials in the past for titles like Anthem and Need for Speed: Heat. Origin Access offers similar perks through EA’s Origin app on PC, but has a slightly different library, and is available in two tiers: Basic for $5 or Premier for $15 a month.
