This guide concerns itself with the Guardian build, a class suitable for players who enjoy raw combat with a lightsaber as their primary means of offense. The information provided here should prove useful to beginners and set them on the right track. Of course, players can tweak all of these suggestions to their heart’s content. This is, by no means, the only way to go when choosing a Guardian build.

Starting Attributes

Once all the cosmetic choices have been made at the Character Creation screen, players must choose their starting Attributes. There are six Attributes in total, which include: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. Since players only have a limited number of points to allocate to these Attributes, this is an important decision. A good starting build can look like this:

Strength: 14 Dexterity: 12 Constitution: 16 Intelligence: 8 Wisdom: 14 Charisma: 12

Strength

Strength is the most important stat for a Guardian. It dictates how much damage players deal to enemies (and how likely they are to hit them) while using melee weapons and lightsabers. Going forward, when players get a chance to increase their Attributes, prioritizing Strength should be the first choice.

Dexterity

Dexterity isn’t as important as Strength, although it still needs some attention during Character Creation. This stat determines how likely the player character is at dodging enemy attacks. Obviously, avoiding more hits increases the Jedi Exile’s staying power in a fight.

Nevertheless, as Guardians, the idea is to hopefully eliminate enemies quickly before they have too many chances to inflict significant damage. Players don’t have to go overboard with this stat. Certain items can also be equipped to help boost Dexterity as well.

Constitution

Constitution is directly related to the player character’s Health bar. A higher Constitution means more Hit Points, so player characters can expect to stay alive longer. Out of all the three classes, Guardians receive the most Hit Points after leveling up. Several of the game’s most useful Implants require a Constitution rating of at least 16, so this tends to be the magic number.

Intelligence

Intelligence is the least important skill for a Guardian. A higher Intelligence grants more skill points per level. However, players won’t be missing anything critical by keeping this stat low. They’ll still have enough skill points to invest in what they want throughout the game. Besides, it’s better to beef up other Attributes like Strength and Constitution in the beginning.

Wisdom

Wisdom is directly related to the player character’s Force bar. A higher Wisdom Attribute means more Force Points. A high Wisdom stat also makes it more likely that offensive Force powers will be successful when employed against enemies. Even though the lightsaber will be the Guardian’s primary weapon, it’s foolish to discount the use of Force powers in a fight!

Charisma

Charisma has several uses in KOTOR 2. It increases the potency of the player character’s Force powers and increases companions’ chance to hit. It also has a direct impact on the Persuade skill, which can really come in handy during particular dialogue conversations.

Starting Skills

The Guardian starts with 4 Class Skills, which include Demolitions, Awareness, Persuade, and Treat Injury. It’s worth noting that Class Skills cost 1 Skill Point to increase, while Cross-Class Skills cost 2 Skill Points to increase.

Of these, Persuade and Treat Injury are the most important Class Skills. Dump any Skill Points into these two categories, although investing in Persuade as much as possible is recommended.

As combat specialists, Guardians gain the most benefits out of Feats. Players can choose from a range of active and passive Feats that will aid them on their journey. Generally, players can’t go wrong with upgrading these Feats whenever possible:

Flurry Critical Strike Dueling Dual Strike Finesse: Melee Weapons Two-Weapon Fighting (only if players prefer wielding two weapons at once) Lightsaber Proficiency Deflect Jedi Defense Ignore Pain (Dark Side) Inner Strength (Light Side) Superior Two-Weapon Fighting & Superior Weapon Focus - Lightsaber (unlocked after choosing requisite Prestige Class)

Along with their lightsaber, Guardians will also make extensive use of Force powers. The choice of Force powers will depend on the Jedi Exile’s alignment. After players choose to embrace the Light or Dark Side, prioritizing these abilities is recommended:

Force Jump (Universal) Burst of Speed (Universal) Force Resistance (Universal) Affect Mind (Universal) Heal (Light Side) Stun Droid (Light Side) Shock (Dark Side) Wound (Dark Side)

Prestige Classes

Once players have reached Level 15 and sufficiently embraced their journey down either the Light or Dark Side, a Prestige Class can be unlocked. Fans must speak to Kreia, who will give players the option to select one of three possible choices:

Jedi Weapon Master/Sith Marauder (Guardian Class) Jedi Watchman/Sith Assassin (Sentinel Class) Jedi Master/Sith Lord (Consular Class)

Regardless of their chosen class up to this point, players can select any of the three above options. However, it’s highly recommended to stick with one’s chosen class, especially for a beginner. In the case of the Guardian, players should choose the Jedi Weapon Master/Sith Marauder class for the sake of continuity.
