Star Wars: Squadrons was officially announced on EA’s twitter following the leak with indication that the full reveal would be taking place later on. The newly released key art has a major Top Gun influence with one focusing on an X-wing and the other a TIE-fighter. The new artwork show their respective pilots entering the cockpits with the tagline PILOTS WANTED. Both images have an 80s aesthetic set in dusk with a sunset sky and a view of space in the background. This follows the original leaked image that also had pilots, star ships and command ships from both the Empire and Rebels ready to do battle.

Little is known about the game but it has been revealed there will be a single player campaign with a heavy focus on multiplayer combat. The Star Wars license has had a history of space combat games in the past from the original X-wing for PC, the Rogue Squadron series for Nintendo consoles, and recently EA’s take on the Battlefront franchise. Star Wars fans have been chomping at the bit for information on the new game as EA has seen a major turnaround regarding reception of its output of games.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 has seen a huge resurgence with major changes being made to the game since its initial unveiling. Hampered by loot box issues and poor handling of unlocks, EA changed its tune with the game, making it easier for players to unlock and customize their favorite ships and characters. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was praised for its focus on a single player story and engaging Souls-like combat, and was successful enough for EA to announce a sequel.
Star Wars: Squadrons is expected to release Q4 of 2020 on current gen consoles.
