EA is not selling Star Wars: Squadrons as a full-priced $59.99 game. Come the Star Wars: Squadrons release date on October 2, fans will be able to purchase it for just $39.99. Unfortunately, no reason was given as to why Star Wars: Squadrons is releasing at a lower price point, but perhaps some more information will come at the EA Play event on June 18.

While EA hasn’t revealed any possible reason as to why Star Wars: Squadrons is releasing at a budget price, speculation points to the game being smaller in scope than fans may expect. It’s possible that the single-player campaign is on the shorter side, or that the multiplayer doesn’t have all that many game modes. However, there could be other reasons for Star Wars: Squadrons releasing at a budget price, and so fans should withhold judgment until EA touches more on the game’s scope.
On paper, it sounds like Star Wars: Squadrons will have a lot to offer fans of the franchise. It will include a full-fledged single-player campaign set after the events of Return of the Jedi. Players will play as pilots for both the New Republic and the Galactic Empire, seeing the story from both perspectives. The game will also boast 5v5 online multiplayer as well, so it seems as though it should give fans plenty to do come launch.
If Star Wars: Squadrons proves popular enough, one has to imagine that EA would be interested in expanding the game’s content post-launch with DLC. It’s been revealed that Star Wars: Squadrons will have cosmetic options and other ways for players to customize their X-Wings, TIE-fighters, and other ships, so maybe the game will add more stuff to unlock later on.
For now, there’s still quite a bit that has yet to be revealed when it comes to Star Wars: Squadrons, but more should come to light at the EA Play event on June 18.
Star Wars: Squadrons will launch on October 2 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
