The action and spectacle aside, however, there’s another aspect of the show that has had a big part in making it endearing to fans: the excellent humor. Despite the show’s theme and general tone, it has plenty of comedic moments. And when it comes to bringing a bit (or a lot) of humor to the show, no character does it better than Grogu, aka, the Child.
7 Don’t Touch
The episode “Sanctuary” starts with the Mandalorian (Mando) and the Child flying to a remote planet to seek refuge from Imperial forces. The Child’s first humorous moment with Mando comes as the duo are flying through space.
Being so naive and unfamiliar with the workings of a spaceship, the Child’s curiosity gets the better of him while sitting impatiently in his hovering cradle. His attention fixed on some nearby switches, the Child makes numerous attempts to play with the controls, which irritates Mando. Mando repeatedly catches the Child and resets the controls, but the Child is persistent. He waits for Mando to stop paying attention before stealthfully flipping the switch one last time.
6 Can’t Stay Put
Later on in “Sanctuary,” after he had his playtime with the switches, Mando attempts to teach the Child another lesson about listening and doing as he’s told. It goes about as well as the first one, but Mando at least doesn’t have to worry about the Child potentially causing any damage to the ship during the lesson.

With them being in an unfamiliar area and knowing that bounty hunters will be after them, Mando decides to set out on his own to scout the area. He tells the Child that he’ll be back and that he should stay put till he returns. The Child seems to listen, but once the ship’s door opens, Mando sees him eagerly waiting by his side. Despite being one of the toughest bounty hunters in the galaxy, Mando knows it would be pointless to try to stop the Child, so he simply brings him along.
5 Soup’s On
“Sanctuary” proves to be an episode filled with great scenes with the Child, as another comes a few moments after the last one. When Mando reaches a settlement on the planet, he orders some food for the Child, and then he looks for any potential threats. He spots someone suspicious, an ex-Rebel soldier (Cara Dune), who seems to be fixated on Mando. These two eventually cross paths by way of the soldier attacking Mando, which starts an intense fight between them.
The Child’s scene comes at the end of the fight. When Mando and Cara reach a stalemate, they hear a noise and stop to see what it is. Next to them stand the Child, taking a long sip of soup from a bowl as he nonchalantly watches the battle. Both fighters now exhausted, Mando suggests that he and Cara get some soup as well.
4 Time To Hide
In “The Armor,” the first episode of the show’s second season, Mando and the Child travel to a crime-riddled city to seek information on the whereabouts of some Mandalorians. They meet with a crime-boss informant, but he turns out to have no intention of helping them. He has his men surround Mando, hoping to kill the bounty hunter and steal his valuable Beskar armor.
The Child brings some levity to the moment before the one-sided fight breaks out. He watches Mando carefully, and once he sees his surrogate father activate one of his wrist gauntlets, the Child knows what’s about to happen and retreats into his cradle to avoid the incoming havoc.
3 A Shocking Situation
This moment comes during the opening scene of “The Seige.” After his ship sustained massive damage during a previous adventure, Mando tries to perform some much-needed maintenance in the cockpit. He cannot do everything himself though, especially the work that involves fitting into tight places, so he tries his best to get the Child to help him.

The Child crawls deep into a compartment in the cockpit to connect some wire couplings that had come loose. Mando tries to explain what the Child needs to do and how to do it safely to avoid getting shocked, but the Child’s comprehension skills prove to still be underdeveloped. Mando tells him to keep the wires apart, but the Child does the opposite, earning him a surprising jolt of electricity.
2 The Cookie Thief
After the hazardous ordeal during the opening of “The Seige,” Mando accepts that he won’t be able to fix his ship by himself and travels to the planet Nevarro to seek some help from bounty hunter Greef Karga. Greef agrees to help, but he requests that Mando first help him destroy an Imperial base on the planet. Mando agrees, and he places the Child in a schoolhouse with other children to keep him safe while he is gone.
The Child has another moment of hilarity after being left with the other kids. The always-hungry Child notices that a human child next to him is eating cookies. The Child tries to get him to share, but when the other kid will not, the Child combines his sneaking skills with his use of the Force to take the cookies without the other kid even noticing.
1 Thrill Seeker
“The Seige” matches “Sanctuary” by being an episode full of great scenes involving the Child. Near the end of the episode, Mando, Greef, and Cara Dune are discovered by Imperial forces as they are sabotaging the Imperial base. With the enemies closing in and the base about to explode, the heroes make their escape. Mando uses his jetpack to quickly flee the base and return to the Child, who he believes is in danger.
The climax of the episode also features one last great moment with the Child. Greef and Cara, traveling in a ground shuttle, manage to evade a group of TIE fighters long enough for Mando to arrive in his repaired ship and save them. Mando uses complex aerial maneuvers to defeat the TIEs, but his moves also have the added benefit of entertaining the thrill-seeking Child. However, the excitement does cause the Child to throw up the cookies he stole earlier in the day.
