Unlike the LEGO: Star Wars games, The Force Unleashed tells a story outside the main films. However, it contains some familiar elements, such as the Empire. Players control Starkiller, Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, as they engage in exciting battles using their lightsaber and powerful force abilities. Recently, fans learned some new details about what to expect from the upcoming Switch version.

In an April 11 tweet from Limited Run Games, it was revealed that The Force Unleashed was not only coming to the Switch eShop but that it was getting a physical release as well. The tweet noted that the game would be getting a limited-run physical release along with two collector’s editions: premium and master. According to Limited Run Games, pre-orders for physical copies of the game will start on April 15 at 10 AM ET and run for six weeks. The standard edition costs $34.99, while the premium comes in at $89.99, and the master edition at $174.99.
Beyond revealing this physical release, Limited Run Games detailed what players would be getting as part of both collector’s editions. Some items available in the premium edition include art cards, a reversible poster, and SteelBook. For the master edition, gamers can expect to receive everything from the premium edition along with a Light-up Holocron Replica, Starkiller Lightsaber Hilt Replica, and a Foil Hardcover Strategy Guide.
It will be interesting to see what the reception is from the community following the announcement of this limited-run physical release for The Force Unleashed. The game already has a history with Nintendo as it was available on the Wii back in 2008 when the game was originally launched. Time will tell if the performance for the game is better this time around. While the Switch is not a graphical powerhouse in comparison to the next-gen consoles, it nonetheless is significantly more powerful than the over 15-year-old Wii hardware.
In addition, it will be interesting to see if this Switch release can garner enough interest from fans for the developers to consider making another game in the series. While a sequel was made called Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, it was not as well-received by many fans in comparison to the first. However, this re-release of the original title and the current hype surrounding Star Wars games could be enough to at least cause the developers to consider the possibility of another installment in The Force Unleashed series.
