During the recent Nintendo Direct, a switch port for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was announced. There are already a lot of Star Wars games on the horizon, such as Knights of the Old Republic Remake, Ubisoft’s open-world game, Star Wars: Eclipse, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, and Respawn’s other two games, but this one is more immediate.

This port will release in just a few months, on April 20. It’s not surprising seeing how many Star Wars games have been ported to the Switch, but what’s interesting is that it’s specifically the Wii version of the game being ported. This means there will be a couple of tweaks as opposed to the PlayStation or Xbox versions of the game, even if it’s to be expected. For example, players should be able to engage in duels between Jedi and Sith characters.
As seen in the trailer above, though, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will also feature optional motion controls. This means, should they so choose, players could flick their Joy-Cons to initiate Force powers, a nice little interactive feature for the game. Luckily for those who don’t want it, of course, it’s worth repeating the keyword here is “optional.”
This port announcement isn’t the threequel that fans have wanted and rumors have pushed for years. Indeed, it’s unlikely that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 3 ever releases, no matter how popular the original two games continue to be. It does seem, at the very least, that this legacy is being respected thanks to ports like these.
It’ll be interesting to see what other Star Wars games get ported in the future, and how well Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on Switch lands. At the very least, it’s not a very long wait for fans of the franchise.
