The Old Republic, which was worthy of the high praise we gave it in our review, has endure its share of problems in the early goings (like most MMOs). Problems like huge Valor exploits being shipped with the first expansion, Rise of the Rakghouls, despite the addition being delayed. BioWare is well aware of the issue and is working to ensure that the exploits will be repaired with the 1.1.1 update which will be releasing soon. There is also another game update similar to Rise of the Rakghouls that will release in the spring, set to feature more content, new game systems, and more guild features.

Impressive stats have also been logged for The Old Republic as well, with over 239 million in-game hours having been logged thus far. 20 billion NPCs have been killed and 148 billion credits have been spent by the 1.7 million subscribers.

In the press release from BioWare, Dr. Greg Zeschuk shares some of his company’s plans for the future of the MMO.

BioWare utilizes fan feedback very well and a MMORPG is a prime example of a community guided experience, proven already by some of the in-game changes patched into The Old Republic since its release in December. It will be interesting to see where BioWare goes with The Old Republic and whether or not it will still be a game that can completely stand apart from its fantasy counterpart, World of Warcraft. While the Star Wars franchise is a great one to explore, the early success of TOR might give more feasibility to the development of a Mass Effect MMO.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is available now for PC.
