In Stardew Valley’s second year, players will get a quest in the mail from Willy during the winter. This quest requires players to catch a lingcod for the fisherman. In exchange for it, players will get 550g and one friendship heart with Willy.

The Lingcod is a special fish in that it will only spawn in one season of the year in Stardew Valley. Thankfully for players, this season is winter. With players getting the letter on the 13th of Winter, players will have sixteen days to find and catch this fish for Willy.
Despite it being a saltwater fish in real life, the lingcod in Stardew Valley is a freshwater fish. This means that it can be caught in the mountain lake and the rivers flowing through Pelican Town during the winter.
The lingcod can appear at any time of day and in any weather. With this in mind, players can catch a lingcod on any winter day in Stardew Valley.
There are two other ways of obtaining a lingcod outside of fishing for them. This is because lingcod can randomly appear in Krobus’ shop stock on Wednesday as well as the stock for the Traveling Cart. This will not count toward the other lingcod side quest given by Demetrius however, which requires players to catch ten lingcods within six days.
Like the other fish in Stardew Valley, players can place lingcod in a fish pond on their farm to raise them. They sell for a base price of 120g with their roe selling for a base price of 90g. Aging lingcod roe will increase this price to a base price of 180g.
Lingcod can be used in a variety of recipes like other fish. These recipes are the Maki Roll, Sashimi, and Quality Fertilizer. In order to make the Maki Roll and Sashimi, players will need to both have the cooking recipes and have the ability to cook in the farm house unlocked.
Even with the extra bundles added for Stardew Valley’s 1.5 update, there are no bundles that require lingcod. The only things that specifically require lingcod are the mail quest from Willy and the six-day limited request from Demetrius. Players wanting to catch every fish, however, will need to find a lingcod as well.
Stardew Valley is available now on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
