To even meet Krobus though, players will first need to gain access to the valley’s sewers. In order to do this, 60 items must be donated to Gunther’s museum. Once that has been accomplished, Gunther will show up the next day to give players the Rusty Key which will give players access to the sewers either from the southernmost part of Cindersap Forest, or through the entrance in the middle of the town by the graveyard.

Updated July 19th, 2022 by Russ Boswell: Stardew Valley is incredibly complex once players start to explore the game’s open world. There are a lot of hidden NPCs to discover, with Krobus being one of the most interesting. The friendly monster will sell players items and converse with them, even moving in as their roommate under the right conditions. Just like any other NPC in the Indie release, players can increase their friendship with Krobus through gifts. To better showcase all the gifts that Krobus likes and dislikes, as well as some universally loved or hated items, the following guide has been updated with tables and more information for better clarity. Here’s an updated guide to gifts for Krobus in Stardew Valley.
Krobus’ Likes & Dislikes
Once players have met Krobus, they have access to his shop and the ability to befriend him. Besides the items that are universally loved (such as rabbit’s feet and pearls), Krobus has its own set of adored items that players can gift in order to gain better favor with the friendly monster. Here’s a condensed look at the items that Krobus loves, as well as information on how players can obtain them.
Krobus himself sells void eggs in his shop. They’re a little expensive at 5,000 gold per egg, but players can just buy one and then hatch it and raise void chickens to get more eggs for a daily gift that Krobus will love. Players can also turn it into mayonnaise with a mayonnaise maker, but there’s nothing to be gained from that as Krobus loves void eggs and void mayonnaise equally. Wild horseradishes meanwhile can be foraged around the valley during Spring.
Diamonds, iridium bars, and pumpkins are a little harder to come by. If players are in the late game and have access to the Skull Caverns and a Crystalarium, then the diamonds and iridium bars may not be too difficult to obtain, as diamonds can be found in the cavern and then replicated with a Crystalarium and Iridium Ore can be found in the cavern as well, which can then be smelted for Iridium Bars. Players who have the Statue of Perfection will have access to daily Iridium Ore which will also help. Pumpkins meanwhile are pretty straightforward, but take a while to grow and can only be grown during Fall without the greenhouse.
Universal Likes & Dislikes
Although Krobus is vastly different compared to most other NPCs when it comes to gifts and person tastes, he still adheres to the rules of “Universal Likes and Dislikes. These items are loved (or hated) by each NPC in Stardew Valley (although there are some exceptions to this rule for some NPCs). Here’s a look at the list of items for quick reference. These items can be used if players are having a hard time gathering Krobus’ specific adored gifts.
Krobus & Food
It should be noted though that cooked items are generally universally liked by Stardew Valley residents, but Krobus only likes Seafoam Pudding. He also doesn’t like Life Elixir. Players should’t worry about trying to craft any particular food-based items to give to Krobus thanks to his wide dislike of the category. If players come across Seafoam Pudding, and they aren’t going to use it, they can toss it to the friendly monster. However, they generally shouldn’t go out of their way to craft the recipe as there are better alternatives to gift Krobus.
Krobus’ Events
Krobus has two events when he reaches a certain heart level. At three hearts, he will send players a crafting recipe for the dark sign. If players give Krobus a void ghost pendant (obtained from Skull Caverns or the Desert Trader) and they aren’t married, Krobus will move into the farmhouse and become the player’s roommate. In this case, his heart cap is raised to 14, the same as any married character, in which he has another heart event at the beach at that cap.
Stardew Valley is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
